also known as Karbonite: Sustainable Cement for a Green Future
Green Eco Circular Cement (GECC) is an innovative, environmentally friendly cement that is transforming the construction industry by significantly reducing the ecological footprint of traditional cement production. This revolutionary material is produced through a unique process that utilizes natural minerals and biomass waste, resulting in energy-efficient and cost-effective production.
The activation process of GECC takes place at temperatures between 750°C and 850°C, significantly lower than the 1400°C required for traditional cement production. This results in an energy saving of 52% compared to current industry standards.
Due to the lower activation temperature and the use of biomass waste, 65% less CO₂ is emitted during the production of GECC compared to Portland cement. Furthermore, for each ton of GECC produced, 145 kg of CO₂ is removed from the atmosphere. This means approximately 185 kg is removed in total, but the first portion results in a CO₂-neutral product.
GECC is at least 21% more cost-effective than traditional cement production, making it an attractive option for construction projects that want to be both economically and ecologically responsible. Laboratory tests have shown that GECC becomes stronger when exposed to extreme weather conditions in freeze-thaw tests. This leads to a demonstrably longer technical lifespan.
GECC offers the same compressive strength as conventional Portland cement, even when mixed with up to 50% clinker.
GECC does not require sand as an ingredient, eliminating the need for unnecessary excavation. Additionally, this contributes to a better financial business case as there are no costs associated with sand extraction, transportation, or disposal. The new version of GECC also does not require clean water and can use ditch or seawater, making it ideal for regions where clean water is scarce.
GECC is versatile and suitable for a variety of construction applications, including:
With its excellent strength and durability, GECC is ideal for making concrete structures such as foundations, walls, and floors.
GECC can be used in asphalt mixtures, contributing to longer road lifespans and reducing maintenance costs.
GECC particularly stands out in products requiring lower compressive strength (MPa). The CO₂ savings are significantly higher for these applications.
By incorporating GECC into your construction projects, you contribute to a more sustainable future while benefiting from the advantages of an advanced, environmentally friendly material.
GECC has emerged from a collaboration between four companies and research institutes dedicated to the construction and building sector.
